Simple Knit Afghan

519afg.jpgThis is a simple afghan where the "pattern" is change of color, rather than change of stitch. This is a great beginner piece!

Enjoy!!

If you find an error in the pattern, please feel free to leave me a comment so I can correct it. If you have a question please leave a comment.

This pattern may be printed.

You are free to share this pattern, you may NOT include in on a website without my permission and you may NOT sell it, either singly or in a collection of patterns.

The only stitches you need to know for this afghan are knit and purl (besides casting on and casting off). Very simple! Great for an early beginner afghan!

Knit the first three and last three rows as well as the first four and last four of each row (both the knit and purl rows). This will give you a no-roll edge all around.

You'll need light or white yarn, dark or black yarn, and either 10 different colors (leftover yarn) or a few colors, to use in a rotating pattern.

Cast on 140 stitches with light (or white) color.
Knit 5 rows then purl row 6

Knit/purl 4 rows black or dark

Knit/purl 4 black
Knit/purl 10 color 1
Knit/purl 4 black**

Continue on using all 10 colors as indicated between **

Change to one of your other colors, knit/purl 12 rows.To finish the afghan off, knit/purl 6 white, knit/purl 4 black, knit/purl 2 white then knit 4 rows white, cast off.

In the brown/sage green afghan, I used 3 colors, and 12 rows instead of 10.

This pattern is only limited by your imagination. You can reverse the black and white, or use any color combination you can put together. You can vary the width of the stripes - just remember, be consistant - keep the same number of rows throughout your pattern for the colors you're using.

This last pattern was made from leftover blue yarns. Each blue color was only used once.
