Knitted Dishrags

300dr.jpgKnitted dishcloths are fairly easy to make. I generally use a variegated yarn, 100% cotton. It's an attractive diagonal pattern. These dishcloths look small but when they're wet, they do stretch. Use a small needle - size 6 or smaller.

You need to know how to do the "yo" (yarn over) stitch, and later in the pattern, to k2t - knit 2 together

Here's the pattern:

cast on 4
R1: k2, yo, k2
R2: k2, yo, knit to end
R3: k2, yo. knit to end

Continue knitting until you have 45 stitches across.

Beginning Decrease:
R46: k1, k2t, yo, k2t, knit to end
Continue on, until you have 6 stitches left.
Last row: k, k2t, k2t, k (should have 4 stitches on needles now.
Cast off, tie up loose ends.

If you want to make a really easy knit dishcloth, just cast on 30-35 stitches, knit every row until it’s the length you want (I try to make them as long as they are wide). These are fast and very easy.

NOTE: Cotton dishcloths are small when they’re dry and stretch when they’re wet. Don’t let the small size fool you!
